Tobago’s New Airport Terminal to Undergo Flight Simulation Before Public Opening, Augustine Announces

Tobago is preparing to usher in a new era of aviation as Chief Secretary Farley Augustine confirmed that the new ANR Robinson International Airport terminal will undergo a flight simulation before opening to the public. The simulation, designed to test operational readiness, will take place alongside the terminal’s commissioning, with official dates expected to be announced shortly.

Final preparations are progressing, including the completion of airport fencing and road markings. Once operational, the terminal is expected to handle up to three million passengers annually, positioning it as a flagship tourism facility in the Caribbean.

Augustine also underscored Tobago’s commitment to community-based tourism, pointing to Castara as a successful model of this approach. The Tobago House of Assembly is planning to expand tourism through community events and the creative sector.

However, Augustine stressed that Tobago requires significantly greater marketing investment to compete with regional destinations such as Barbados and Grenada. Without such investment, he warned, the island risks falling behind in the competitive Caribbean tourism market.
