Speaking at the Public Service Open House 2026 in Port of Spain, Senator the Honourable Dominic Smith, Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to creating a modern, citizen-centric, and digitally enabled Public Service. The event, which celebrated United Nations Public Service Day, saw over 40 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies come together to exhibit the innovations and technologies that are revolutionizing how the Government interacts with and serves its citizens.
But digital transformation, according to Minister Smith, goes beyond just technology. It’s about simplifying and accelerating public services, while also preparing citizens for a progressively digital society. Government initiatives such as FutureReadyTT and VerifyTT are crucial in this regard, creating novel ways for citizens to access services, credentials, and learning pathways.
The Open House provided a unique opportunity for citizens to directly interact with Government agencies, explore their services, and experience first-hand the digital and technological advancements that are shaping public administration’s future in Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Smith underlined the vital role of public officers in this transformation, as they turn policy into action and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
The event also highlighted the Government’s digital transformation agenda, which encompasses expanding online services, improving agency interoperability, and integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. A particular emphasis was placed on youth engagement and career awareness, with the recent launch of the FutureReadyTT initiative, a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education to prepare citizens for an AI-driven future.
In closing, Minister Smith noted that true transformation extends beyond technology adoption, emphasizing the importance of inclusion, participation, and continuous improvement in the public service’s evolution. The Public Service Open House 2026 is a testament to the Government’s broader vision of a digitally enabled, transparent, and responsive Public Service, built on strong partnerships between the Government, citizens, educators, and the industry.
