The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) is calling on Public Utilities Minister Clyde Elder to mediate an escalating dispute with the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT). The contention arises from executive spending and unresolved wage negotiations. CWU Secretary General Joanne Ogeer expressed frustration over TSTT’s significant spending on executive activities while wage negotiations remain unresolved. The issue was highlighted by a $436,000 invoice for a three-day executive retreat. TSTT’s recent proposal includes a one-time payment of $15,000 without increases to salaries, pensions or allowances, while workers’ salaries remain at 2019 levels. The union is also concerned about worsening working conditions and declining morale due to recent restructuring. TSTT defended the retreat, claiming the circulated figures are overstated by about 60 percent and the event was strategic. The CWU is calling on Minister Elder to help facilitate a fair resolution between workers and management.
