Zambia’s Innovative Approach to TB Testing Amidst Funding Crisis

Faced with significant funding cuts and operational challenges, Zambia is rethinking its tuberculosis testing strategy. Health officials are currently validating a new compact, battery-powered device designed to provide quicker, on-site TB diagnosis results. With high TB incidence rates, estimated at 58,000 cases annually, Zambia’s traditional testing methods have struggled. Only about a third of the country’s health facilities can currently provide TB testing. This phased rollout aims to ensure effective community access and is crucial for improving public health outcomes.
