Strict Drone Regulations Enforced in Port of Spain for Independence Day Celebrations

As Trinidad and Tobago prepares to celebrate its 64th Independence Day, the public is reminded of strict regulations regarding the use of camera drones in Port of Spain and other designated no-fly zones. The Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority has reinforced the rules set under the Civil Aviation (No.19) Unmanned Aircraft Systems Regulations 2016.

The designated no-fly zones include Port of Spain, Chaguaramas, Caroni, Point-a-Pierre, Point Lisas, Point Fortin, and the Galeota areas. Additionally, drones are not permitted within five kilometers of any manned aircraft operations or two kilometers of any helipad. Operators must also adhere to an altitude limit of 400 feet and avoid flying over crowded areas or public events.

In anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations on Monday, August 31, 2026, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) will deploy counter-drone measures to ensure public safety. This year’s events will feature a military parade, a cultural show, fireworks, and a drone display. These measures are crucial to prevent any unauthorized or hazardous use of drones.

The TTPS Air Support Unit, along with other law enforcement agencies, will be vigilant throughout the day, focusing on unauthorized drone activity that could pose a threat to public safety. These precautions are necessary to protect attendees, service personnel, and display aircraft during this high-security event.
