A recent incident involving a young creative professional has sparked a considerable amount of discussion online. The individual shared his experience of being pressured to accept a job offer and subsequently being labeled as ‘problematic’ for requesting a written contract before committing to the role.
The young professional received a call from a businessman interested in hiring him due to his skills in media production, content creation, scripting, marketing, and digital communications. However, the communication process was marred by a misunderstanding about a follow-up meeting, contributing to an atmosphere of confusion.
At the meeting, he was presented with a job role which required a vast array of skills, including content creation, social media management, administration, client communications, scheduling, filming, and editing. Feeling pressured, he sought advice and was advised to request a formal written offer outlining the terms of employment before accepting any position.
After receiving and reviewing the written job description, he expressed concern about the breadth of responsibilities and a clause indicating that duties could evolve over time. Despite expressing a willingness to consider a probationary period, he insisted on receiving a proper contract detailing compensation, responsibilities, payment arrangements, and other key terms. As a result, the company decided not to proceed with the hiring process.
The situation escalated with the employer sending a voice note describing him as ‘problematic’ and criticising his perceived lack of experience. However, the young creative maintained that understanding responsibilities and compensation before accepting employment is not a sign of arrogance or disrespect. His story has since ignited an online debate about the importance of transparency during the hiring process and the need for young professionals to fully understand the terms of employment before making career decisions.
