The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has announced a heightened police presence in crime hotspots across Trinidad, with a special focus on dismantling criminal gangs. Assistant Superintendent of Police Owie Russell made the disclosure during yesterday’s police media briefing, signaling a new phase in the fight against violent crime.
Russell emphasized that the TTPS will be placing special emphasis on gang-related activities, which authorities believe are fueling a recent spike in murders. He confirmed that the police will work alongside the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment to intensify operations in affected communities.
Meanwhile, investigators are probing whether Tuesday’s killing of Shaquille Charles is connected to Saturday’s triple murder at the Unipet gas station in Laventille. Charles, an employee of Parts World, was shot dead in the car park of a business along the Eastern Main Road in Barataria. He resided at Mon Repos Road, Morvant.
The potential link between the two incidents underscores the growing concern over gang violence in the country. Police have not yet released further details on the investigations, but assured the public that every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice.
