Teen baker’s mother rejects donations, appreciates overwhelming public support and kindness.

Reshma, the mother of 17-year-old entrepreneur Sabrina, has publicly defended her daughter following days of online debate surrounding the teenager’s cupcake business, while thanking the community for its overwhelming support.
In a heartfelt video, Reshma explained that Sabrina started Baked by Brina while waiting to pursue her studies, choosing to spend her vacation building a small business rather than seeking traditional employment.
According to Reshma, the controversy began after Sabrina shared a cookie recipe on social media, which received significant attention. She said someone later took screenshots from her daughter’s profile, including photos of her cupcakes and their prices, prompting widespread discussion online.
Sabrina subsequently posted a video explaining her pricing and the reasons behind starting the business, saying she hoped to help cover some of her own expenses while easing the financial burden on her mother.
Describing herself as a dedicated single parent, Reshma said Sabrina has always witnessed how hard she works and wanted to contribute by becoming financially independent in her own way.
“She is my only child and my first priority,” Reshma said. “She saw how hard I work and wanted to do small things for herself. I encourage that.”
The response to Sabrina’s story has extended beyond social media comments, with many people contacting the family to offer financial donations. While expressing sincere gratitude for the kindness shown, Reshma said the family has respectfully declined those offers.
“We cannot take advantage of anybody’s kindness like that,” she said.
Instead, she encouraged those wishing to support Sabrina to purchase her cupcakes. For individuals who simply want to help, she suggested buying cupcakes and donating them to relatives, children’s homes or other people in need rather than giving the family money directly.
Reshma concluded by thanking everyone who has supported her daughter throughout the past week and expressed how proud she is of Sabrina’s determination, describing her as a caring, hardworking young woman committed to building something for herself.
The story has sparked a wider conversation about youth entrepreneurship, small business pricing and the challenges young entrepreneurs can face when their businesses become the subject of intense public scrutiny.
