Opposition presses PM to disclose details on Tobago radar installation

Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles is calling on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to fully disclose the circumstances surrounding the installation of radar equipment at the ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago by the United States military.

Speaking at a People’s National Movement (PNM) press conference at the Office of the Opposition Leader in Port of Spain yesterday, Beckles questioned why the project was carried out without public knowledge and demanded clarity on its purpose, cost, and scope.

Beckles argued that citizens have a right to understand how such decisions are made and what agreements, if any, were entered into with the US military. She insisted that transparency is critical, especially for matters involving national security infrastructure.

“What else is the Prime Minister keeping secret?” Beckles asked, adding that the continued silence from Government only fuels concern. “It is time the Prime Minister tells the country the truth.”

She said the Opposition intends to pursue the matter until full disclosure is provided.
