Migrants Endure Extreme Conditions for In-Person Registration

In Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, hundreds of migrants, including families with young children, endured extreme weather conditions to register for the Government’s Migrant Registration Programme at the Ato Boldon Stadium. Despite the challenging circumstances, many expressed gratitude for the process. However, there were some issues, such as slow-moving lines and confusion over required documentation. Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander, acknowledged these conditions and promised improvements, including moving the registration process inside the stadium. More than 29,000 migrants have registered so far, with the aim to process 250 to 300 people per day at the Couva site. While the online registration portal is currently closed, the Minister is considering its reopening to ease pressure. He reassured migrants that the process is not linked to deportation, but about regularising status and protecting vulnerable families.
