A man aged 62 is facing trial at Truro Crown Court, accused of sexually abusing and raping his wife regularly over an 11-year span, from 2006 to 2017. The man’s identity remains undisclosed to protect the identity of his ex-wife. The victim shared her terrifying experience in court, recounting the times she was in fear for her life and had repeatedly asked her husband to seek professional help. The accused denies all charges laid against him which include six counts of rape, one count of sexual abuse, and two counts of attempted rape. He defends himself by claiming to have been sleepwalking and experiencing ‘sexomnia’, a condition in which he was oblivious to his actions. Despite his claim, the prosecutor states that the victim reported receiving apologies from him post the incidents, promising it wouldn’t recur. Two sleep-disorder specialists are expected to provide evidence on the condition of ‘sexomnia’ during the trial.
