Maduro’s Security Team Killed in U.S. Operation

Vladimir Padrino López, the Venezuelan Minister of Defence, has stated that a significant portion of President Nicolás Maduro’s security team was killed during a U.S. military operation early Saturday. This operation resulted in the extraction of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from their Caracas compound. Padrino mentioned that authorities are still working to assess the full extent of the damage, with initial reports making it challenging to confirm the exact number of casualties. It has been reported by The New York Times that Venezuelan officials estimate at least 40 people were killed during the operation, which U.S. forces have called ‘Absolute Resolve.’ Padrino strongly criticized the operation in an official statement, describing it as a ‘cowardly kidnapping’ of Maduro and his wife, following the ‘cold-blooded killing’ of a large part of his security team.
