Anthony Ogeer, a resident of La Romaine, has been handed a five-year prison sentence with hard labour after he confessed to owning two rounds of .38-calibre ammunition, which police found at his home in 2023. The police discovered the bullets hidden under a tabletop stove during a search operation at Ogeer’s Pond Street home. Justice Nalini Singh initially set a sentence of six years but later reduced it to five, taking into account Ogeer’s remorse and early admission of guilt. The judge also acknowledged Ogeer’s history of four cannabis-related offenses. The sentence was further increased as the ammunition was found while Ogeer was on bail for another ammunition charge earlier in 2023. Following the ruling, Ogeer has been disallowed from holding a firearm license, and the seized ammunition was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed. His sentence will consider the time he has already served.
