Government Examines Refinery Restart Report

The Government, under the stewardship of Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal, has received a report from the Refinery Restart Committee. The report is undergoing detailed examination and is the subject of ongoing discussions with various stakeholders. The aim is to carefully plan the future of the refinery. Considerable time is being invested in analysing recommendations and identifying viable pathways forward. As part of these efforts, the Minister has been in discussions with his counterpart in Suriname, Patrick Brummings, and Trinidad and Tobago maintains ongoing communication with Guyana on energy issues. The Government plans to use upcoming international platforms to advance these discussions. Energy conferences in India and Guyana will provide the opportunity to engage with international energy companies and foreign governments. The Minister disclosed that Trinidad and Tobago is also in contact with Ghana, with a meeting with Ghana’s Energy Minister expected soon. Issues around Venezuela’s political situation were acknowledged by the Minister who expressed hope for a resolution soon, allowing for better planning on energy matters, including those affecting the refinery.
