A typical Carnival Friday afternoon turned into a horrifying scene of violence on February 13th, 2026, at Jade Court, Couva. Gunmen unleashed terror by opening fire and killing two people, causing panic among children who were playing in the park nearby. DaVaughn Toussaint, a local resident, was chased and shot dead on the street near his home. The terror didn’t stop there. At the park, children’s laughter turned into screams as the shooting began. The victim’s wife rushed to save their child, and in the process, she too was fatally shot multiple times. The park was left in shock with a pink bicycle and black football serving as grim reminders of the tragedy that unfolded. The incident has not only traumatized the residents but also sowed fear in the Couva community, particularly as the Carnival weekend approaches. The police have since launched an investigation into the double murder.
