“The spirit of unity was palpable at the Freetown Collective’s recent performance at the Naparima Bowl, as the band delivered an enchanting acoustic set that captivated attendees. This intimate affair, part of their Tight Spaces concert series, saw the group showcasing both beloved classics and fresh compositions, with lead singer Muhammad Muwakil setting the tone for a night of heartfelt music and camaraderie.
Kicking off the evening, guest artists Ella V and TOOFLESS enchanted the crowd with their harmonious duets and engaging stage presence, setting the perfect mood for what was to come. Following them, SirrG5 shared poignant stories through his music, reflecting on love, friendship, and resilience in the face of community challenges.
Freetown Collective then took the stage, thrilling the audience with hits like Red Eye and Oshun, and bringing renewed energy with newer songs from their 2025 album Beyond the Machine. As percussionist Ajibola shared tales of the Orisha Oshun, the audience was drawn into a deeper narrative of cultural heritage and empowerment.
The concert’s crescendo saw the audience transform into an impromptu choir, passionately singing along to Kaya and other crowd favorites. Muhammad Muwakil’s call for the audience to adopt a mindset of change and unity resonated strongly, promoting a message of love that transcends the day’s events.
Special guest appearances enriched the experience further, seamlessly adding to an atmosphere filled with joy, dance, and a celebration of togetherness. As the band concluded with spirited encores, the night left an indelible impact, echoing the true essence of Freetown Collective’s mission to foster community through music.”
