PTSC to Launch Numerous New Bus Routes to Bolster Public Transport

In an ambitious move to revamp transportation across Trinidad and Tobago, the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) is preparing to introduce between 25 and 30 new bus routes. This expansion is designed to improve access to public transportation for both rural and urban communities, according to Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour.

Minister Zakour highlighted that the PTSC is currently undertaking extensive repairs on its existing fleet to bring more buses back into operation. “We did not inherit the best situation,” he noted, referencing the challenges left by previous administrations. The corporation came under new management with only 97 operational buses, despite needing a fleet of roughly 300 to adequately serve the nation.

The introduction of these new routes signifies a critical development in the quest to provide greater coverage and reliability for commuters who have, until now, faced limited service. The Government’s commitment to restore and expand public transport options is a promising step forward.

Beyond simply adding new routes, this initiative underscores a systematic effort to remedy over nine years of neglect within the transport system. Zakour expressed optimism about the impending changes, indicating that commuters can expect the new routes to be rolled out very soon, with all efforts being directed toward ensuring an efficient and accessible transport network.

With this strategic expansion, the PTSC aims to bridge transportation gaps, thereby enhancing connectivity for countless residents in both urban centers and remote regions.
