Four Officers Charged with Perverting Justice

Four officers from Princes Town Police Station are facing charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, and have been granted bail. The officers, PC Mervyn Eligon, PC Akeil Smith, PC Dawud Mohammed, and PC Alex Harripersad were charged by the Professional Standards Bureau after an investigation. Granted bail by Justice Stephen Young at the Besson Street Police Station, three officers received bail of $150,000 each and the fourth was granted $275,000 bail. The case, adjourned to April 23, 2026, will allow a State Counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to be assigned. Defence attorneys Enrique Singh and Kamini Ramraj are representing the officers.
