A 76-year-old woman fell victim to a violent robbery in Couva after withdrawing TT$4,000 from a local bank. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, when she was approached by two women who offered her a ride home. She accepted, climbing into the back seat of their pearl white vehicle.
However, the ride took a sinister turn upon reaching Southern Main Road near the Savannah. Without warning, the driver abruptly stopped. Two men in a black vehicle then approached, with one of them opening the passenger door and launching an assault on the elderly woman.
The attackers quickly fled the scene, leaving the woman shaken and without her belongings. They made off with her handbag, which contained not only the TT$4,000 in cash she had recently withdrawn but also a Samsung dual SIM phone valued at TT$1,000, and several identification cards related to her banking.
The incident is currently under investigation, as confirmed by WPC Carter-Sammy. It remains unclear whether the attackers were known to the victim, or if this was a random act of violence.
