**Flash Flood and Mudslide Devastates Nepal’s Rasuwa District**
*Dharmshala, Nepal – August 26, 2024* – A severe flash flood and accompanying mudslide struck the Rasuwa district of Nepal along the border with Tibet early Wednesday, resulting in at least 95 confirmed deaths and leaving hundreds of residents missing.
According to local reports, the sudden deluge of water, mud, and debris inundated villages, destroyed homes and infrastructure, and cut off key transport routes in the mountainous region. Rescue teams have been deployed to the affected areas, and authorities are conducting search‑and‑rescue operations to locate missing persons.
The disaster’s impact extends to communities on both sides of the Nepal‑Tibet border, with concerns raised that some of the missing may be ethnic Tibetans residing in the region. Officials have not released an official death toll for the Tibetan side, and the full extent of the damage remains under assessment.
The Nepalese government has called for national and international assistance to support relief efforts, and the Red Cross Society of Nepal has begun distributing emergency supplies to survivors. The affected area remains inaccessible by road, complicating relief operations.
Further updates are expected as rescue and recovery work continues.
