A man from Tunapuna is nursing injuries following a brazen daylight robbery in a bustling Port of Spain carpark on Monday afternoon. The incident, which saw the victim brutally assaulted and stripped of high-value jewelry, took place around 1:30 p.m. on March 23, 2026, at the Salvatori Carpark—a high-traffic area in the city’s heart.
The victim was ambushed from behind by two young men as he was returning to his parked vehicle. The attackers used enough force to knock the victim to the ground, where they continued the assault. During the struggle, the assailants stripped the victim of two substantial pieces of jewelry—a gold bracelet valued at $6,000 and a Spanish link chain valued at $15,000.
Following the attack, the culprits made a hasty exit in an unknown direction. The police have since released descriptions of the suspects. Both are described as slim, dark-complexioned, around 5 feet 5 inches tall, and estimated to be in their late teens or early twenties. One was dressed in an orange jersey and blue three-quarter jeans, while the other wore a black T-shirt and blue three-quarter jeans.
Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, with officers combing through potential surveillance footage from the area. This incident has stoked fresh worries about the level of security in public parking facilities in the city center during business hours.
