Barry Padarath, the current Minister of Public Utilities, has been appointed as the Acting Minister of Education in Trinidad and Tobago. This temporary appointment comes as the current Education Minister, Dr. Michael R. Dowlath, is overseas on official duties. The transition was confirmed by a media release from the Ministry of Education on August 11, 2026.
Padarath will assume the additional responsibilities from August 11 to August 14, 2026. During this period, he will be overseeing the activities of the Ministry of Education while continuing his roles in the Ministry of Public Utilities and the Office of the Prime Minister.
The Ministry has reassured the public that all educational programs and services will proceed without interruption despite the change in leadership. In their statement, they emphasized their commitment to maintaining the effective administration of their responsibilities.
As Padarath takes on this temporary role, he will be managing a broader scope of duties across three significant sectors. The public is assured that the Ministry’s mandates will continue to be delivered efficiently during this brief transition period.
