Police Fatally Shoot Suspect in Officer’s Murder During Late-Night Operation

Hassan Johnson, a suspect in the murder of Police Constable Rommel Douglas, was shot and killed during a police operation late last night. The confrontation took place at approximately 11:35 p.m., marking a significant development in the investigation of Douglas’s death.

PC Rommel Douglas was tragically killed on July 28, 2026, while sitting in his car in Kelly Village, Caroni. His death prompted a comprehensive investigation involving multiple police units and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. The operation that led to Johnson’s death included officers from the DCP Operations Team, Home Invasion Team, Special Investigations Unit, Western Division Gang Unit, Northern North CID, and South-Western Division Gang Unit.

Johnson, who was identified as being from Printeryville, Arima, was born on September 14, 2007. His involvement in the case had been a focal point for law enforcement agencies seeking justice for the slain officer.

The police operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address violent crime and bring those responsible for such acts to justice. The collaboration between various units highlights the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case.
