Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sönmez was eliminated in the second round of the Guangzhou Open Women’s Singles tournament after a 2‑1 defeat to Swiss competitor Jil Teichmann. The match, played in Guangzhou, China, ended with Sönmez taking the first set 6‑4 before losing the next two sets 6‑3 and 6‑1. Sönmez entered the tournament ranked 64th in the world, while Teichmann was ranked 168th. In the first round, Sönmez had advanced by defeating Spain’s Sorribes Tormo 2‑1 (6‑1, 4‑6, 6‑2).
