A police-involved shooting occurred in Port of Spain on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, during a chase that ended with the escape of a wanted man. The incident took place around 11:00 a.m. when members of the Port of Spain Task Force (POSTF) attempted to intercept a vehicle at the corner of Frederick and Prince Streets. The vehicle, a white Honda Vezel with registration PDW 1608, was reportedly driven by Abraham Callender of Beetham Gardens. Callender is currently wanted in the Tobago Division for multiple robberies, according to police reports. The vehicle had two occupants at the time of the incident. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply. The passenger in the vehicle then reportedly pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers. In response to this threat, one officer discharged his weapon toward the vehicle. Despite this, the suspects managed to escape. They later abandoned the vehicle in Beetham. The SUV was recovered and towed to the Besson Street Police Station for processing. The scene was subsequently visited by ASP Farrell, Sgt John, PC Ramsaran, and WPC Phillip of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit. They conducted a detailed examination of the area and the abandoned vehicle.
