Vessel Damaged in Second Sea Trial

The Blue Wave Harmony, a ship undergoing its second sea trial, sustained hull damage while berthing at the Port of Scarborough in Tobago on January 30, 2026. The incident occurred during docking and not while sailing. The ship was under the operation of the captain, with assistance from a marine pilot, which is a standard practice. It’s important to note that the responsibility is shared and not solely on the captain. Preliminary investigations suggest that weather conditions, including strong winds, are being considered as contributing factors. There were no passengers on board and no injuries were reported. The vessel is now stable and all immediate safety protocols were activated. Inter-island ferry operations are continuing as normal, with no disruptions announced. Damage assessments are currently being conducted by technical teams, the vessel operator, and relevant authorities including the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago. At this stage, no details have been provided on the extent or cost of the damage, whether the hull breach affects seaworthiness, how long repairs will take, or whether the vessel’s commissioning timeline is impacted.
