The President cited issues such as narco-terrorism, corruption, and threats to U.S. security as reasons for this decision. He assured that the action is not an annexation but a temporary arrangement until Venezuela achieves a safe transition. Trump also stated that the existing leadership in Venezuela has lost its legitimacy, necessitating U.S. involvement to prevent further criminal control. No congressional authorization, UN mandate, or international agreement was referred to during his announcement, nor was any formal executive order or treaty presented with his statement.
