Two teens charged in Hunters Hill arson spree appear in children’s court

Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17, faced a children’s court on Thursday after being arrested in connection with a series of attempted arson attacks that rattled the Sydney suburb of Hunters Hill over the past month. The ordeal began in the early hours of June 21, when police were called to a home on Alexandra Street after a resident spotted a trespasser. Officers from Ryde Police Area Command found a small fire burning near the front door of a vacant property, quickly extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW. Just over a week later, on June 29, a vehicle on the same street was deliberately doused with an accelerant. Police cordoned off the area and later discovered two empty fuel cans nearby on Brown Street. The pattern continued on July 5, with another trespassing report. The breakthrough came late on July 15, when police arrested both teens following a trespassing call. They were charged with entering enclosed lands with intent to commit an indictable offence and attempted destruction of property by fire or explosive while in company. Both were refused bail and are due back in court. Investigations are ongoing.
