Two families in Trinidad are grieving after two distinct but tragic incidents involving suspected suicides. The first incident occurred in Chaguanas, where 33-year-old Veshal Nanlal was discovered hanging in a stock room at his home. The event unfolded on July 16, 2025, following a heated argument with his mother. After she urged him to return home and clean his room, Veshal came back intoxicated, leading to the altercation. He threatened to take his own life before locking himself away. A tenant, noticing the silence, found him hanging from a burglar-proofing section, but attempts to revive him were futile; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second case involved 49-year-old Edward Squires from Las Lomas, who died on July 11, 2025, after allegedly ingesting a toxic pesticide. His brother discovered him gasping for breath on the couch, with a bottle of the pesticide nearby. Emergency services were called, but despite urgent medical intervention, Edward was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Police have since confiscated the pesticide bottle for investigation. Both cases are currently under investigation as families mourn the loss of their loved ones.
