TTPS Launches Urgent Probe into Alleged Intercepted Audio Recording Disclosure on Social Media

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has acknowledged the circulation of an audio recording on social media, purported to be intercepted communication. This development has prompted the TTPS to remind the public about the Interception of Communications Act, which strictly regulates such interceptions.

The Act clearly disallows unauthorized disclosures, with Section 8(6) specifically penalizing those who reveal the existence of a warrant or application for one. Violators can face fines up to fifty thousand dollars and imprisonment for three years.

In response, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has ordered an immediate investigation. Assistant Commissioner of Police Andy Teewarie will lead efforts to determine the authenticity of the recording and whether it was lawfully intercepted. If verified, the investigation aims to uncover how the recording entered the public domain.

The probe will also assess any unauthorized disclosure of protected information and potential breaches of security protocols. The TTPS stresses that this matter is being addressed with utmost urgency and confidentiality due to its national security implications.

While the investigation is ongoing, the police assure the public that updates will be provided when deemed appropriate, ensuring that national security interests remain safeguarded throughout the process.
