Former United States President Donald Trump issued a sharp critique of the International Criminal Court (ICC) during an address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Trump characterized the tribunal as an institution that has lost control and described its representatives as a group of evil people.
During his speech, Trump called upon all member states to formally withdraw from the court, labeling it a rogue institution. He stated that the United States would not permit American soldiers to be subjected to what he described as rigged proceedings before an anti-American court.
The Trump administration has maintained a position that the ICC is an illegitimate body that threatens American sovereignty. The United States is not a member of the court and does not recognize its jurisdiction over American citizens.
Trump specifically criticized the court regarding the arrest warrant issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in connection with actions taken during the war in Gaza. By urging member states to distance themselves from the institution, Trump expanded his previous stance against the court’s authority.
