Trinidad’s Heatwave: Residents Urged to Take Precautions Against Rising Temperatures

Health officials are urging residents across Trinidad to take precautions as soaring temperatures continue to grip the country, with daytime highs expected to reach 32°C in the coming days.

The prolonged period of hot weather has prompted renewed advice for the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day and remain alert for signs of heat-related illnesses.

Officials are encouraging people to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. Residents are also advised to limit strenuous outdoor activities between late morning and mid-afternoon, when temperatures are typically at their highest.

Particular attention is being placed on vulnerable groups, including older adults, young children, pregnant women and individuals with chronic medical conditions, who are considered to be at greater risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Health authorities are also reminding the public to check on elderly relatives and neighbours, never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles, and ensure pets have access to fresh water and shelter.

With temperatures forecast to remain above 31°C, residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official weather updates and follow public health guidance to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses as the hot conditions persist.
