Minister of Finance and Planning, Economic Affairs and Development, Dr Kennedy Swaratsingh has acknowledged that the decision by Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) to increase the price of cement will put extra financial pressure on consumers. However, he emphasized that ongoing communication between the government and the private sector is key to managing the growing costs in the economy. TCL has informed its customers that the price of cement will be increased by 15% due to the rise in energy costs. Swaratsingh explained that pricing decisions are ultimately the responsibility of the companies operating in competitive markets, and they must act in their own best interest. He also hinted at the possibility of further price increases from other companies.
