Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has intensified opposition to the reappointment of Carla Barnett, accusing CARICOM of using a non transparent process. The government claims the decision was made without proper consultation and may violate regional treaty rules. Trinidad and Tobago has warned it may reduce its financial contribution, which accounts for about 22 percent of the regional body’s budget, as calls grow for accountability and reform within CARICOM.
