Trinidad and Tobago Health Ministry Warns Against Fake Cancer Drug

The Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has issued an alert regarding falsified IBRANCE (palbociclib) capsules, a medicine used in treating specific types of breast cancer. The Ministry’s Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division (CFDD) has advised the public about a WHO alert concerning these counterfeit products. The fake products misrepresent their origins, composition, and identity. Pfizer, the original manufacturer, has confirmed the falsified nature of these products. These counterfeit medicines have been detected in Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, and Türkiye. The falsified capsules contain no active pharmaceutical ingredient, making them unsafe for consumption. Using these can lead to treatment failure, uncontrolled cancer progression, and a higher risk of death. The Ministry advises individuals who might have these drugs to stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase. The counterfeit products display multiple packaging discrepancies and capsule irregularities.
