Trinidad and Tobago Emerges as CARICOM’s Largest Financial Contributor, Other Member States Also Hold Significant Positions

Trinidad and Tobago emerges as the largest financial contributor of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), providing approximately 22% of the organisation’s annual core operating budget. The country has consistently supported CARICOM, funding over a fifth of its operations. This commitment extends beyond just financial support, as Trinidad and Tobago also hosts key regional institutions such as the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and the CARICOM Implementing Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS).

On the economic front, Trinidad and Tobago plays a central role within the region. As of 2026, the country is regarded as CARICOM’s largest importer and exporter of goods, underscoring its prominence and influence within the bloc.

However, Trinidad and Tobago is not the sole significant player within CARICOM. Other member states also hold substantial positions. Guyana, for instance, is widely recognised as the most resource-endowed country, particularly due to its vast oil and gas reserves. Meanwhile, Jamaica, with its large population, remains the most populous member of CARICOM. Although Trinidad and Tobago leads in financial contributions, the influence and importance of other member states cannot be overlooked.
