Tree Crashes on Vehicles at Port of Spain General Hospital, Two Safely Rescued

An unexpected incident unfolded at the Port of Spain General Hospital on June 23, 2026, when a tree toppled over, landing on three vehicles in the hospital’s visitors’ car park. Among those affected, an adult man and a young girl found themselves trapped in one of the vehicles amidst the chaos.

The swift response by emergency services, including the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, ensured that the two occupants were safely extracted and promptly transported to the Accident and Emergency Department. Fortunately, both individuals were reported to be in stable condition, sustaining no major injuries.

The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) has since taken charge of the situation, working collaboratively with several agencies, such as the Port of Spain City Corporation and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM). The immediate efforts included securing the area and providing transportation for the owners of the affected vehicles, ensuring safety and mitigating further risks on-site.

Responding to the incident, the NWRHA has initiated a comprehensive assessment of the hospital compound’s surrounding vegetation. This proactive measure aims to prevent future occurrences, safeguarding patients, visitors, and staff from any similar hazards. The agency extended its gratitude towards all involved for their expeditious and professional conduct.

With the tree and associated debris now cleared, detailed evaluations will continue in a bid to enhance the overall safety measures at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
