On the evening of June 22, 2026, a police-involved shooting incident took place in the San Juan district, Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) responded to a report of an armed male being pursued by a group. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly injured an officer and fled the scene.
Further searches by additional TTPS units led to a second confrontation with the suspect at around 7:30 p.m. The individual, reportedly armed again, advanced towards the officers. In response, the officers discharged their service firearms, and the suspect was hit.
The suspect was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He has been identified as 36-year-old Abraham Hackette of Farroe Terrace, San Juan. Meanwhile, the injured officer is reported to be in stable condition and receiving further medical care.
Scenes of the incident have been processed by the Northern Division Emergency Response Unit Crime Scene Investigations personnel. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with all relevant protocols being followed. As per standard procedures, the matter has been referred for further review.
