Tragic Death of Five-Year-Old Pupil Shakes School Community, Ministry Offers Support

In a devastating blow to the local school community, Asia Mohammed, a five-year-old First Year pupil of Raghunanan Road Government Primary School, tragically passed away after falling ill during the Easter vacation. Asia’s sudden illness took a turn for the worse, resulting in her being rushed to the hospital, where she later died, leaving her school and family in deep mourning.

The Ministry of Education expressed profound sorrow over her passing, remembering Asia as a bright and cherished member of the school community. Known for her lively personality, Asia was a source of joy and cheer to both her classmates and teachers. Her loss is deeply felt within the school community.

In response to this tragedy, the Ministry’s Student Support Services Division is stepping in to provide much-needed counselling and emotional support to both students and staff dealing with this immense loss.

However, Asia’s death is not an isolated incident, it comes during a particularly tragic period involving children across the country. Just days earlier, seven-year-old Angelica Saydee Jogie too lost her life in an unfortunate incident at Pigeon Point Heritage Park. Another child, six-year-old Skylar Gabriel, is currently on life support at the San Fernando General Hospital following a pool incident in Gasparillo.

As the school community grapples with these tragedies, education officials have affirmed their solidarity with Asia’s family and the wider school community during this difficult time.
