TPRC Denies PM’s Claims Over Eddie Hart Police Post Legal Dispute, Supports Lawful Crime-Fighting

The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) has firmly rejected allegations made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who claimed the Corporation obstructed public safety efforts by halting the construction of the proposed Eddie Hart Police Post.

In a statement released on Thursday, TPRC Chairman Josiah Austin emphasized that the Corporation is fully supportive of initiatives aimed at combating crime. He clarified that the issue at hand was not about opposing the establishment of a police post but rather about ensuring adherence to planning and development laws before any construction could commence.

Austin further noted that despite the Government’s call for stakeholder partnerships, the TPRC had not been consulted in this matter. He cautioned that equating the enforcement of planning regulations with support for criminality could erode public confidence in governmental institutions.

Reassuring the public and the Government, Austin reaffirmed the TPRC’s commitment to collaborating on public safety initiatives that are lawful and properly planned. He expressed hope for future cooperation with law enforcement and government agencies to achieve these goals.
