Tobago’s Airport Evolves: New Concessions and Opportunities Unveiled

The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has unveiled plans for new commercial concessions designed to support local businesses at the ANR Robinson International Airport’s Eastern Terminal in Tobago. As the facility gears up for its operational launch, the Authority is negotiating with existing and prospective vendors to provide a smooth transition and foster local entrepreneurship.

A notable feature is the Authority’s commitment to affordable rental arrangements for micro-business operators. Vendors currently pay $50 plus VAT monthly, and although there will be a moderate increase, the rates are intended to remain accessible. The Authority clarified that no Minimum Annual Rent or turnover-based charges would apply, countering recent public speculation about potential price hikes.

In collaboration with the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Authority is enhancing vending spaces with modern kiosks at no extra cost to operators. These upgrades aim to provide a comfortable, secure environment with air conditioning and improved customer accessibility.

Bids from both existing concessions and new businesses are being entertained, emphasizing a transparent and competitive selection process. While some applicants struggled with eligibility requirements, the Authority remains committed to fair opportunities for all to boost Tobago’s economic landscape.

This development aligns with the Authority’s broader effort to invigorate indigenous Tobago-owned businesses, contributing to the island’s aviation, tourism, and economic growth. The collaborative approach aims to integrate local enterprises into the terminal’s commercial offerings, ensuring a robust platform for Tobago’s entrepreneurs.
