The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is crediting its newly installed radar system for a major breakthrough in border security—an estimated $171 million drug bust in the Caroni Swamp.
In a media release on Thursday, the TTPS said the radar, which was recently commissioned as part of efforts to strengthen national security, provided critical intelligence that led to the discovery. While specific details about the technology and its operational capabilities were not disclosed, the service confirmed that the radar alert triggered a coordinated, high-level response.
The operation was led by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, alongside Deputy Commissioners Natasha George and Suzette Martin, and involved multiple tactical units acting on the intelligence gathered.
The TTPS described the seizure as the first major success linked directly to the radar system and emphasised that it underscores the value of enhanced surveillance capabilities in curbing transnational crime.
Investigations into the drug trafficking network are continuing.
