Three Arrested in Major Human Trafficking Crackdown Across Trinidad and Tobago

In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, three individuals have been detained in Trinidad and Tobago. Among those detained is Titus Du Bois, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. The operation also led to the arrest of Venezuelan national Francis Carolina Rengel Ojeda and Damon Domonic Charles, a resident of Tobago.

Authorities allege that the group was actively involved in recruiting, transporting, and exploiting vulnerable individuals, including children, for commercial sexual exploitation. A 17-year-old Venezuelan girl was reportedly lured to Trinidad with a fake job offer and subsequently sexually exploited on both islands.

This major enforcement action, dubbed Operation Iceberg, saw searches at multiple locations across Trinidad and Tobago. The operation involved screening Venezuelan nationals and conducting thorough immigration checks as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Ministry of Homeland Security spearheaded the operation, which followed months of meticulous intelligence gathering. This initiative marks the first major enforcement exercise by the Counter Trafficking Unit in Tobago.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are still in progress, and they plan to file charges under the Trafficking in Persons Act. Efforts to dismantle the alleged trafficking network continue as the investigation unfolds.
