Golden Carrier to Replace Blue Wave Harmony on Sea Bridge at No Extra Cost

The National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) has announced that the M.V. Golden Carrier will join Trinidad and Tobago’s inter-island cargo sea bridge, replacing the M.V. Blue Wave Harmony while the latter undergoes scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
In a media release issued on July 24, 2026, NIDCO said the substitution will take place under the existing Charter Party Agreement (CPA) and will not result in any additional cost to the State.
According to the release, the M.V. Blue Wave Harmony was chartered on December 18, 2025, for a one-year period structured as an initial six-month term with an option to extend for a further six months. At the six-month mark, the vessel’s owner exercised the option to temporarily substitute the Blue Wave Harmony with the M.V. Golden Carrier to facilitate maintenance work.
NIDCO stressed that the charter hire remains unchanged and that the replacement vessel satisfies all operational requirements for the inter-island cargo service.
The company also highlighted several specifications of the M.V. Golden Carrier, noting that it offers 1,950 lane metres of cargo capacity, slightly exceeding the Blue Wave Harmony’s 1,925 lane metres. Both vessels are capable of transporting dangerous cargo.
For passenger operations, the Golden Carrier can accommodate 399 passengers and crew, compared to 280 on the Blue Wave Harmony. It also provides 240 passenger berths, up from 166, while featuring 70 cabins and additional elevator capacity.
NIDCO said the introduction of the M.V. Golden Carrier is intended to ensure continuity of the cargo sea bridge service between Trinidad and Tobago while the Blue Wave Harmony undergoes its scheduled maintenance, with no increase in charter costs to taxpayers.
