**Thailand Seizes Over 1.8 Million Counterfeit Items, Estimates Damage Exceeding 809 Million Baht**

Bangkok – Thai authorities reported that 1.84 million items infringing intellectual property rights were seized in 512 cases during the first seven months of 2026. The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) said the estimated economic loss from these cases exceeds 809 million baht (approximately US$22 million).

The figures, released on 29 August, cover enforcement actions conducted jointly with the Royal Thai Police, the Customs Department and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). Of the 512 cases, 140 involved online marketplaces, resulting in the seizure of more than 322 000 items and an estimated damage of over 104 million baht.

**Types of goods seized**

The seized items included a range of consumer products such as clothing, jewellery, cosmetics, electrical appliances, mobile phones, other electronics, cocoa‑based drinks, coffee, seasoning powders and vehicle parts. In a separate operation targeting production and sales networks in Bangkok and other provinces, authorities uncovered counterfeit versions of coffee, cocoa drinks, fabric softener, cosmetics, shampoo, toothpaste and motor oil.

**Health and safety concerns**

Officials noted that some counterfeit consumer goods were produced with substandard ingredients or under unhygienic conditions, raising concerns about contamination and chemical residues.

**Geographic focus of raids**

Enforcement teams also inspected shopping centres and tourist zones in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan and Sukhumvit districts, as well as locations in Chiang Mai, Surat Thani and Phuket. Counterfeit branded watches, bags, clothing and jewellery were among the items confiscated in these areas.

**Planned destruction of seized goods**

The DIP announced that a further operation scheduled for 10 September will destroy more than 2 million seized items from intellectual‑property cases that have reached a conclusion. The goods slated for destruction represent an estimated damage of over 2.145 billion baht (about US$58 million). The ceremony will be held in Don Mueang, Bangkok, and will be presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun. Representatives of intellectual‑property rights holders, foreign embassies in Thailand and the media are expected to attend.

The department described the destruction of seized counterfeit goods as the final stage of intellectual‑property law enforcement, intended to prevent the re‑entry of illegal products into the market.
