Teen Sisters’ Disappearance Sparks Social Media Control Plea

In a shocking turn of events, two teenage sisters, Celina Balliram, 15, and Alena Baksh, 12, from Princes Town, Trinidad and Tobago, have gone missing. The girls reportedly left their home on Friday to buy breakfast and have not been seen since. This incident has sparked a call from a concerned relative for stricter regulations on social media use by minors, citing potential safety risks.

According to the relative, this is not the first time Celina has gone missing, with her previous absences spanning up to two months. However, this is the first time Alena has been reported missing. The girls last communicated with the relative on Saturday via WhatsApp, defiantly refusing to return home. The relative fears that the girls may have been targeted by older individuals through social media platforms, as both had active Instagram accounts.

The family situation has been strained recently. The girls’ father was incarcerated last month for robbery, and their mother has been unable to care for them. As a result, the sisters and their other two siblings have been residing with their grandmother in Princes Town. Complicating matters further, both girls have been absent from school since the Carnival period.

The grandmother, already burdened with the responsibility of a bedridden daughter, has found it challenging to supervise the children closely. The relative is now pleading with the girls to return home safely and calling on authorities to take stronger action in regulating minor’s access to social media to safeguard vulnerable children.
