The 53rd CARIFTA Games in Grenada were dominated by Team Trinidad and Tobago (TTO), with an impressive performance across track and field events. The team’s prowess was displayed in a multitude of events, from sprints to distance races and field performances.
The standout moment was the Girls’ Under-17 1500m, where Nyla Kerr and Oshea Cummings delivered a sensational 1-2 finish for TTO. Kerr clinched gold on her debut, while Cummings closely followed for silver. This stellar performance set the tone for the games, underlining TTO’s athletic strength.
In the Boys’ Under-20 1500m, Darius Harding claimed silver with a thrilling finish that had spectators on the edge of their seats. His teammate, Armani Dillon, also showcased his potential by placing fourth. Furthermore, the Boys’ Under-17 100m final saw Jayden Goodridge and Jaquan Douglas secure silver and bronze respectively, highlighting TTO’s sprinting capabilities on the regional stage.
Field events were not left behind, with Zayne Martin delivering a massive leap in the Boys Under-17 Triple Jump. Tessica Laurence added to the medal count by securing bronze in the open pole vault for girls. The Boys’ Under-17 Javelin Throw also saw TTO add another bronze to their expanding medal collection.
The Girls’ Under-20 100m sprint saw Alexxe Henry continue the medal rush with a silver, while her teammate, Imani Mills, put in a commendable effort to finish fifth. Overall, the performance of Team TTO at the CARIFTA Games is a testament to their sporting prowess and bright future.
