Switching to Cloth Diapers: Why Parents Are Making the Change

A Trinidad and Tobago father is encouraging other parents to reconsider cloth diapers after admitting he once believed they were “a horrible idea.”
In a recent video shared by So Eco TT, the father reflected on how his perspective changed after initially dismissing cloth diapers as too much work. He said he believed they would involve extra washing, added effort and unnecessary inconvenience, but decided to give them a chance after his wife researched the topic and explained the benefits.
Now a firm believer, he says three key reasons convinced him to make the switch.
The first was the financial savings. Rather than continually purchasing disposable diapers, the family made a one-time investment in reusable cloth diapers that could be washed and used again and again, significantly reducing their long-term costs.
The second was their baby’s skin. The father said he became concerned after learning about the chemicals commonly found in disposable diapers and encouraged parents to do their own research before deciding which option is best for their family.
The third reason was the environmental impact. According to the father, a child can use between 6,000 and 7,000 disposable diapers before becoming potty trained, with each diaper estimated to take around 500 years to decompose in a landfill. He said those figures completely changed the way he viewed disposable diapers and motivated him to embrace a more sustainable alternative.
“So this really changed how I looked at cloth diapers,” he said. “It encouraged me to sell them and spread this information.”
Inspired by their own experience, the family now operates So Eco TT, where they promote reusable cloth diapers and encourage parents to consider a more economical and environmentally friendly approach to diapering.
