Sierra Leone to Host Landmark ECOWAS Summit in July 2026

In a historic announcement, President Julius Maada Bio stated that Sierra Leone will host the ECOWAS Summit for the first time on July 19, 2026. The summit will be held in Lungi, located in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom of Port Loko district. This event marks a significant milestone for the country as it continues to strengthen its role in regional governance and cooperation. During a recent Presidential Townhall meeting in Makeni, Bio emphasized the importance of the summit for Sierra Leone’s engagement with other West African nations. With this summit, Sierra Leone hopes to boost its political profile and foster collaborative efforts within the ECOWAS framework.
