The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it has removed the commercial vessel M/V Huda from the Oman Strait after the ship’s crew repeatedly ignored U.S. warnings and attempted to breach the maritime blockade imposed on Iran. According to CENTCOM, a U.S. military aircraft fired precision munitions at the rear of the M/V Huda, which is flagged to Saint Kitts and Nevis. The strike was carried out after U.S. forces had ordered the vessel to vacate the area that was to be targeted. The ship had been attempting to exit the region after having visited an Iranian port. CENTCOM said it continues to enforce the blockade rigorously and has advised all vessels operating near Iranian waters to heed U.S. warnings. Since September, U.S. forces have directed 147 commercial ships to comply with the blockade and have removed five that refused to do so. Earlier operations had destroyed 10 Iranian oil tankers that were part of the Revolutionary Guard’s shadow network. The blockade has reportedly prevented Iran from exporting crude oil worth more than $25 billion. CENTCOM’s statement did not report any casualties among the crew of the M/V Huda.
